$5,000 – Crawfordville, FL:

“Price Negotiable. Vintage Jeepster Commando. Needs Engine

With some trepidation, I’ve decided once and for all that I’m selling the Commando. I love that old bruiser, but due to a family tragedy that I can discuss directly in private, it needs to be out of my life.

This is a 1973 AMC Jeepster Commando(C104). It is currently not running(see below). It currently has the original factory powertrain. 304 CID AMC V8, Th400 Transmission, Dana 30 front, Dana 44 Rear, Dana 20 case. The suspension hasn’t been lifted or otherwise messed with. Wheels are older aftermarket nuggets, with a brand new set of Goodyear Wrangler tires. Power brakes are the original 14” Drums, but they do make disc conversion kits for them. Factory power steering.

The Good:
It underwent quite a bit of restoration work in the early 2000’s to the body and the interior. It’s painted Dupont hunter Green with a blue pearlcoat. The underside was coated.

Original transmission has no noticable wear and load wise complete overkill for such a small vehicle. People use TH400’s in drag cars. Last time I had the pan down, there wasn’t so much as a shaving.

Has an aftermarket roll bar, a full Bestop soft top, and a Bestop Bikini top.

Original AM radio was removed and the dash was modified for a single DIN.

Under 500 miles on the tires. Goodyear Wranglers.

New master cylinder, new power booster, HEI and electric fuel pump

It has a clean title and has been registered and insured in Florida as recently as November 2017

The bad:

The engine suffered a valvetrain problem that’s common with this model engine, resulting in a stuck valve on #8. When this initially happened, I got into it looking for the other most common problem, a bad lifter, found the valve with a busted keeper, and soon realized I was in for a swap or overhaul.

Some drips from the output seal of the t-case

Needs new transmission fluid lines

Needs Bushings

A few other things that I’m not skilled enough to deal with.

An ideal buyer would have the time. skill, and/or connections to perform an engine swap. These have the room and the parts available for a relatively painless LS swap. It will also accommodate any AMC V8 from the 304, 360, to the 401 on the current transmission and engine bay, if you want to go that route.

I’m asking 5k(negotable) as these are rare as hen’s teeth and it still looks great. Not interested in any trades as I am looking to fund a different project.
