$1,500 – Torrington, CT:

“Rare 1987 BMW 535is.

Only 2400 made and was the precursor to the first factory BMW M5, released in 1988. The 535is was reported to be the fasted production sedan on the planet that year. It came with Recaro seats, upgraded fuel injection, stiffer suspension and front and rear spoilers.

I added a Conforti chip to this one.

I’ve owned the car for five years and am the third owner. It has been my daily driver and has about 205,000 miles.

The car has all the imperfections and idiosyncrasies of any thirty-three year old car, but it still turns heads wherever it goes.

It recently sprung a slowish coolant leak and the radiator should be replaced. Used radiators go for around two hundred and fifty bucks. It will also need a little welding of the right front trailing arm – although I’ve been driving it as it is without problems for some time – and the rear light assemblies (thirty dollars each) need to be replaced as there’s a short, but the lights do all work. The high beams sometimes dim to regular, though. The windshield washer unit needs to be fixed.

Most everything else works…radio, windows, sunroof, heater, mirrors, etc. I’ve never tried the air conditioner.

There is rust on the trunk lid lip and on the rocker panels as well as some surface rust underneath the car. The frame itself seems solid, though.
